Maintaining Good Health Through Exercise !


Exercise is an essential part of maintaining your health, and research is beginning to show that how much you exercise may have an even larger impact on health than your diet. This doesn't mean you should forgo a sensible diet, though, because exercise works best when combined with good eating habits. However, exercise does provide numerous profound benefits to health on its own. Here are a few of them.

Improved Mental and Emotional Health

One of today's most common complaints from both adults and children is depression. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly one in ten Americans say that they suffer from feelings of depression. While there are many schools of thought as to why this is, it is very likely that a lot of the blame can be placed squarely on the fact that most people today get little or no exercise. Physical activity increases the brain's levels of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Testosterone is also boosted significantly which helps to further enhance feelings of happiness and well-being. Research spanning as far back as 30 years has found that  regular exercise programs aid mood enhancement in people with mild or moderate depression.

Some of the fitness activities that have proved to be the most helpful with depression include walking, bicycling and weight lifting, all of which can be accomplished with some basic home gym equipment and a simple pair of shoes.

Heart Health

 Heart disease is the cause of death for Americans, no matter their age, gender or race. The condition is closely tied to obesity, which is a worrisome fact when two-thirds of adults and one-third of kids and teens are considered overweight or obese. However, the risk of developing heart disease can be dramatically reduced through proper exercise. Cardiovascular workouts like running, cycling, jogging and aerobics can help to reduce blood pressure, make the blood vessels suppler and keep the heart muscle toned. Home gym equipment like  treadmills and   ellipticals are ideal tools for some of these activities and will make it harder to make up excuses not to exercise when the weather gets bad.

Improved Sleep

Improved sleep quality one of the biggest benefits of exercise because poor sleep has a way of ruining everything, including health. Sleep is the body's natural restoration process, and most growth and healing takes place during this time. Furthermore, insufficient sleep leads to much higher stress levels, a problem commonly associated with heart disease, weight gain, immune suppression, depression and many other health problems. Fortunately, better sleep is only a 30 minute workout away because physical activity makes the brain release larger amounts of relaxation-inducing neurotransmitters like endorphins and serotonin.

Many of today's most commonplace mental and physical health problems can be blamed on a lack of exercise. Exercise is the great regulator of many of the bodily functions that keep people feeling healthy and vibrant. Most experts recommend getting at least 30.
